The global housing crisis is a pressing issue that affects millions of people. I designed the Beyond Brix home to not just solve the problems of today, but keeping in mind the challenges around water and energy for the decades to come. The home is build completely from engineered sustainable timber, includes the award-winning Hydraloop greywater recycling system, and can operate fully off-grid if needed. By implementing smart home technology as a standard, we reduced the copper use in the home by 50% and improve operating efficiency by 20-30% overall.
By adopting these technologies, builders can create homes that are not only more sustainable but also more cost-effective in the long run, for themselves as well as the home buyer. The challenge for existing builders is that it is hard to pivot supply chains, get employees up to date with new training, and adapting an operating model that has worked for them for decades.

Timber as a non-toxic building material is now being used to build hospitals as it promotes speedy recovery, reduces anxiety and has anti-microbial properties. Engineered timber homes are stronger, with a break force significantly higher than regular two-by-fours. They are better able to withstand extreme weather; making them more resilient, better to own, and easier to maintain. This resilience allows for a home with a 100+ life cycle that requires less or no roof replacements and a much more pleasurable ownership experience.

The Bosco Verticale, or "Vertical Forest," consists of two residential towers adorned with over 9,000 trees and 20,000 plants.
